A 3 year old orange and white Petit has been lost in the Gainsborough area of Lincolnshire.  She comes to the name of Tallulah or Lou although she is quite shy.  She went missing Sunday afternoon when out for a walk.  She may be around the area of the A15 Cainby Corner/A631 area.  If anyone has seen her would they please contact Diana Nichols on 01673 818521 or Rose Phillips at end of this page.

"To start with he didn't answer to his name, and in fact didn't seem to understand the concept of words. The only word he understood was NO. He was not housetrained, but got the idea within 24 hours. He was perplexed by the lead and his idea of a walk was ten paces, one long wee on the move, turn round, back home. He was frightened of open fields, and only liked to walk predefined paths. He wouldn't cross the threshold, or enter a room without being encouraged, and tried to make himself as invisible as possible. He had no idea what to do with toys, balls or bones, and is greatest pleasure was to lie on the grass with you and rub heads together. ………..

………. I took him with me everywhere and he gradually built up confidence and learned how to enjoy himself …….. he is the most laid back, contented dog I know. It's a real pleasure to have his affection and trust.

The Basset Griffon Vendeen Welfare is financed by the Clubs monthly limited odds draw, donations and fund raising events.  For those of you that don't know how the limited odds draw works - you pay £12 for the year and you are allocated a number.  Each month a draw takes place and if your number comes up you win a cash prize.  The profits from this all go to rescue.  For further details contact Audrey Herring on 01923-283367

Every Summer a Fun Day is organised and in 1999 it was my turn.  It's a really great day especially for the pet owners who never meet other people with the same breed.  Walking around it's nice to hear them comparing notes and discussing things their hounds have got up to.  We had 14 novelty events which involved people and dogs.  I think the most popular events were the mini agility which Val Jackson kindly organised and the sack race.  The day raised £170.

This years Fun Day has not been arranged yet so watch the news page for further details.

In 1999 luckily only 6 hounds had to be rehomed. 5 Petits and 1 Grand. These came into rescue for various reasons the main one being the fact that they are hounds.

I think it is very sad that people buy the breed thinking they are the ideal cute family pet and also sad that not all breeders are completely honest with potential purchasers.  The amount of telephone calls I receive with regard to this is unbelievable.  There are a lot of people out there that don't particularly want their walk extended to 4 hours because their hound has gone hunting!

If you would like more details of how you could help or if you need help in rehoming a Griff, please call Rose Phillips on Tel: 01205 280102, email rose.phillips@virgin.net
